Big Hair, Big Personality and a BIG Future

Georgia actually came to us for two shoots for actor headshots as she wanted to get a big range of headshots for when she graduates from Guildford in 2020. She is amazing and we loved getting to know her. She has some great stories to tell in her interview. Enjoy!

Tell us a little about yourself

Hey I’m Georgia Ross – a London based Performer from Bristol, with big hair to match a bubbly personality.

Where did you study and do you think that a formal education in performance is essential to being successful?

I am in my final year at Guildford School of Acting, studying BA Musical Theatre. Personally I think drama school is such a great opportunity and it opens many doors as a stepping stone into the industry. GSA has taught me so many lessons and provided me with endless amounts tools I can take out into the ‘real world’.

We get to work along side so many amazing creatives and industry professionals which I find the most beneficial as an insight into the industry and what is expected of you. Personally, Drama School has allowed me to grow as a person, not only a performer; with growing confidence, mental and physical ability.

What inspired you to be an actor / performer? Was it a person or a particular event?

As corny as it sounds it was that first musical I ever saw on the West End. My parents took me to see Grease and I just loved every second of it. Besides this, I remember in Primary School we were doing Oliver as our end of year play and I was one of the market sellers in the ‘Who Will Buy’ scene and I remember my old music teacher coming up to my mum and I at the end of the performance and he told me I should take ‘this’ further in terms of singing and acting training; where it all sort of grew from there. I’ve always loved to perform, sing and dance and joined my local amateur operatic society and our first musical was Les Misérables where we just auditioned with one song for all the parts. The cast list was then send out but I didn’t receive anything, so it was the first rehearsals when the cast list was revealed and I had no clue and I found out on the spot that I was playing the role of Fantine, at the age of 14 where the rest of the cast were 18 years or above and it was that little spark the director saw in me just grew from there. The best feeling.

What is the hardest role you have ever played, and why?

I think Fantine as mentioned above. Not only was it my first public show but to go through such a range of emotions; have a child, thrown out of work, become a prostitute, die, then come back to life JUST WOW.. and explore all this at the age of 14 to provide a convincing performance was a lot! And Les Misérables is my dads favourite musical so I wanted to make him proud!

Tell us three interesting facts about yourself

My hair is real and naturally this curly, not a perm – I’m a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do – I can make a pretty convincing pigeon sound.

What is your dream role and what do you think you could bring to it?

Wow, there are so many to chose from. But pin it down at this moment I would love to play Velma Kelly in Chicago or even one of “The Mistress’ of Murderers’ row” bringing the sass, confidence of these strong feisty women.

Do you have a job or side hustle to support your career and if so, what do you do?

I am a part time Princess a long side my training at Drama School, much to my mum and dads amusement. So I get invited to children’s birthday parties as their favourite princess and play party games.

What is your greatest claim to fame?

I sang a cover of Amy Winehouse’s “Rehab” outside the Stage Door of the Bristol Hippodrome to Marti Pellow after his performance of Evita.

Oops sorry – another one.. I went to Alfie Boe on Broadway in Finding Neverland and met him after the show and embarrassingly I had a mix tape of me singing on a CD which I gave to him at the end of the show, where he wandered off down the street with it in his back pocket. And he tweeted me a month or so later saying he loved it
