Tell us a little about yourself

I’m Danny, an actor based in South West London, a Chelsea fan – addicted to buying trainers.

Where did you study and do you think that a formal education in performance is essential to being successful?

I did a theatre course at the Brit school but I was only there for around a year. I got a part in doctors and couldn’t do the course and the job at the same time, so made the decision to leave and pursue what I wanted to achieve. I don’t necessarily think education in performance is essential. If you have an opportunity to be out there and learning it while doing it, why not!

What inspired you to be an actor / performer? Was it a person or a particular event?

It didn’t actually stem from me wanting to be an actor, I almost fell into it. I was a really shy kid, and socially a little bit awkward so my mum sent me to a little drama club in south London, just to bring me out of myself a bit. I absolutely fell in love with it, and really enjoyed the aspect of people believing that I was someone else. The drama club was owned by agency and they came down for one of our shows and signed me up. Growing up I watched a lot of The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air, so if I had to pick someone I looked up to growing up it would definitely be Will Smith.

What is the hardest role you have ever played, and why?

I’d say it would have to be when I played Jamie Collier in Casualty. He was a trainee nurse having to deal with all the stress and chaos that can happen in an A&E, but along with that he was harbouring a secret he’d kept for many years – that he was gay, while trying to keep up a macho image in front of his dad. Filming all of those scenes, as hard as it was, was also very rewarding and I hope we did it justice!

Shot by Stormzy!!

Tell us three interesting facts about yourself

I’m half Bajan.

I was one of the first Young Simbas in the Lion King when it opened at the Lyceum Theatre.

I really don’t like chocolate.

What is your dream role and what do you think you could bring to it?

Growing up I always played the cute younger brother, or the comedy sidekick. I would love an opportunity to do a serious drama, to play a character with a lot of complexity, something out of my comfort zone.

Do you have a job or side hustle to support your career and if so, what do you do?

At the moment I don’t have a side hustle, but I have worked in a few gyms – I wish I could tell you it was as a personal trainer but no! I was just that friendly face sat at reception!

What is your greatest claim to fame?

In the film Brotherhood I’m actually shot by the one and only Stormzy. Had a great few days filming on that – and he’s a top lad!

Whats next for you?

Looking forward to some great opportunities, and a blessed 2020!
