Aspiring stage and screen actress that always carries a bottle of ketchup!!!

At just 16, Alicia is right at the beginning of her acting career with plenty of auditions in the pipeline. It was great to meet her and her mum for her first set of actor headshots in our Bristol studio.

Tell us a little about yourself

My name is Alicia May Davies, I am 16 years old and I am from the West Midlands.

Where did you study and do you think that a formal education in performance is essential to being successful?

I currently study a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts and a BTEC in Dance at Shrewsbury Colleges Group. This vocational course has helped me grow as a performer in so many ways, so in some sense I believe that education can help towards being successful. It is like drama school, it is another option of growing your talents and skills as a performer however that is further education which is not always essential.

Sometimes having first hand experience after education is going to make you more successful in the long run. This is such an unpredictable career path where anything could happen in that certain moment – most actors become successful by that one film/tv show they were in, that blew up over the media. ‘Right place, right time’ as some would say. If you work hard, success should come your way.

What inspired you to be an actor / performer? Was it a person or a particular event?

I have loved all things acting/musical theatre since I was 3 years old. Me and my brother used to put on mini productions for our family when they came over! It was a lot of fun. A lot of the inspiration came from watching different films/tv shows/musicals, my current inspiration is David Tennant – one of the most phenomenal actors I have come across; the way he adapts each character he has ever played is insane. I also find inspiration from Michelle Keegan, Leonardo Dicaprio, Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev – all incredibly talented at what they do as actors/actresses.

What is the hardest role you have ever played, and why?

The hardest role I have had to play was a schizophrenic teenage girl in my OCR GCSE Drama piece. Pretending to have another voice in your head is very hard, having to touch on such a delicate issue that surrounds this world is also difficult – you have to be very careful on your approach which is why I found it very tough. When researching, I had to go into so much detail because this mental health disorder is very intricate in its own way – everyone is affected differently but all on the same spectrum of them having a voice in their heads. It was a great challenge where I learnt so many more skills as an actress – I was also successful in the performance, I achieved a grade 9 (A**) which again is a massive achievement for me.

Tell us three interesting facts about yourself

My spirit animal is a Bumble Bee.

I carry a bottle of Heinz Ketchup with me everywhere.

I have generalised anxiety disorder but somehow love horror movies.

What is your dream role and what do you think you could bring to it?

My dream role in TV/Film is being in a dystopian world of some sort where there is fictional characters – I feel this would be a great challenge as I could put my own spin on that character because it is not real, there is so much direction I could go, with the way I would performed it. I would bring a new perspective on how an audience member could perceive that character – it also would be a lot of fun to not play a human.

My dream role in Theatre is playing Elle Woods in ‘Legally Blonde’, she is such a strong character figure in the way she proves everyone even the audience wrong by showing them she is more than just a blonde, rich girl from California. She puts herself to the test by working hard and trying to succeed for herself – at first it is for a boy, and then she realises she wants this for herself. I feel I could bring some of my tenacity to the role as well as a sense of motivation; whatever you convey to the audience, it what they will try to feel. So if I feel motivated to prove ‘Warner’ wrong, the audience will want to do the same.

Do you have a job or side hustle to support your career and if so, what do you do?

I currently work as a sales assistant for Doll Beauty in Topshop – this right now is supporting my phone contract that helps me network as well as building up my social media pages. When I leave college, I would love to be bar trained or be a barista – both these skills help with applying for future on the side jobs – or I would love to teach drama at a local company on the weekends.

What is your greatest claim to fame?

Hugging Emma Mackey before she got famous and knowing she is related to one of our family friends.

Whats next for you?

I have been successful in an agency audition for Scream Management Talent agency, getting onto their Young Performer’s books.

I am hoping to do a lot more auditions this year, hoping to be successful! If I have not been successful by summer 2021, I am hoping to go to drama school and study a BA Honours in either Acting or Musical Theatre.
